~ I'm VERY excited to announce the July 11 release of my brand new (44th!) album “One Hour Mama: The Blues of Victoria Spivey” on Nola Blue Records. Spivey is one of the original Classic Blues Queens of the 1920s, & known for her often risque naughty bawdy songs. Victoria started her own record label, Spivey Records, in the early 60s to record both old Blues veterans & young hopefuls just starting out (like myself & Bob Dylan, to name a few!)!~ She took me under her wing, mentored me & gave me great encouragement & support!~
~My favorite New Orleans band TUBA SKINNY joined me on a few cuts & I recorded 2 really fun duets with my old pals TAJ MAHAL & ELVIN BISHOP!~ This album is a loving tribute to Victoria Spivey for all she brought to the Blues & for the great influence she was on my Musical Journey.
